A Little Get To Know Me!

I usually blog about my son or my day to day activities but rarely do I blog just about me! So, I thought I would do a little “Get to Know Carly” post for today!

I actually used to HATE my name. Like really hate it. Carly isn’t a very common name, however; there was another Carly in my grade all through elementary school and high school. We were pretty close as kids but even though I knew another Carly, I still wanted a more “popular” name. Like Brittany or Jessica or Sarah. It also used to drive me nuts because my name can’t be shortened into something so I would always get called Car. Which, fine. Whatever it’s cute except when all the boys would say “Hey Car! You’re a car which means I can drive you!” Hahahaha….clever. It used to make me so angry! Nowadays though, I like my name. I like Car and I like when I introduce myself to my patients. They never fail to say “Wow, that’s an unusual name. But it’s very very pretty. You must like having such a unique name.” It’s basically an ice breaker for me as well as them because it usually gets me rambling on about how I used to hate it…like I am now πŸ˜‰

I am a huge animal lover! One of my high school teachers used to say that I had a bleeding heart when it came to anything animal related. If I could, I would adopt every homeless animal I could find! Seriously. Nothing makes me more sad than seeing an animal in distress. Even though we have Nate now, my three cats will always be my babies too.

I hate socks. Actually scratch that! I hate anything on my feet. I wish I could just go barefoot all day every day. I would be so much happier if my feet could be free! Even though they are quite ugly! haha!

I love the Food Network. I don’t really like cooking but I love watching cooking shows! I started watching them when I was around 12 or 13 and I’ve been addicted ever since. Kurt doesn’t understand how I can watch so many cooking shows and not be hungry 24/7.

Country music is my jam! I have way too many favourite country artists to name!

I hate the lighting sections in stores. I have no idea what my issue with them is but I cannot stand walking through them. I remember hating these isles as a kid and to this day I still feel uncomfortable when I walk through or past them in Home Depot or Canadian Tire. It’s a really strange thing to hate I know! I think it’s because all the lights glow differently and for some reason it bothers my eyes or something. Who really knows!?

I love donuts! I’ve never tried it but I’m pretty sure I could eat a dozen in one sitting. That’s how much I love them.

I’m addicted to Pinterest. I used to hate it when it first became popular because I didn’t understand the concept of “pinning” something but now I am a HUGE fan! I got a ton of ideas from this site for our wedding, for Nate’s nursery, for our house…the list could go on and on. My one problem is that I pin a lot of DIY things and then never actually get around to doing them. Which to be honest, is probably what happens to most people on Pinterest.

I really enjoy the peace and quiet that country living has to offer. My dream is to have a nice country house with a good amount of land in a quaint little town. That sounds heavenly to me!

One time, to get out of picking up dog poop at my dad’s house; I purposely fell down the stairs. I was trying to hurt myself just enough so that my dad and step-mom wouldn’t make me go outside to help. It didn’t work and I just ended up with a sore ankle. Haha!

I’m really interested in astrology. I find our solar system to be very fascinating.

I can’t whistle or make myself burp.

I love reading! I’m always taking suggestions on the next book I should read so if you’ve got any recommendations send them my way!

Kurt bought me a journal when I was 16 weeks pregnant so I could journal through my pregnancy. After Nate was born, I was having trouble finding the time to sit down and write and that’s how my idea for my blog started. I realized I could type faster than I could actually print so blogging about being a new mom made a lot of sense to me.

I love roller coasters even though I haven’t been on one since I was around 16.

Since being off on maternity leave coffee has become my new best friend! My Keurig has never gotten more use than it has these last nine months!

Autumn is my favourite season! I love the crisp air, the vibrant colours, and all the fun outdoor activities! My birthday is at the end of September which is another reason I love the fall but now I love it even more because Nate’s birthday is right before Halloween, which in my opinion should be considered a holiday!

I also love Thanksgiving. I love Christmas too but because Thanksgiving is right smack dab in the middle of my favourite season, it’s my favourite holiday!

I love watching House Hunters and House Hunters International even though I often get jealous of the people who find these gorgeous houses for next to nothing.

My birthstone is Sapphire and I’m a Libra.

I love Sarah Richardson! I wish I could afford to hire her to design my whole house. She’s just amazing!

I would take a lake view over an ocean view any day!

I’ve only been on a plane once. Well, technically there and back from the Dominican Republic when I was 17.

I’ve never broken a bone in my body before and I’ve only had to get stitches once in my life. Knock on wood!

I used to be a very picky eater. The older I’ve gotten the more willing I am to try new things but as a kid; forget it! I remember stuffing a hamburger patty in my sock once when my parents weren’t looking then flushing it down the toilet! That’s how picky I was.

Odd numbers used to really bother me unless it was the number 3 or multiples of 5. I would kept my volume on my TV on even numbers or a multiple of 5 and my sister would come into my room and switch the number to see if I noticed. I always did. If it wasn’t assigned seating, I would count out the row and desk number I would sit at during tests in school. I wouldn’t wear an odd number jersey during sports unless it was a 3 or a multiple of 5. Yes, I know very OCD. I’m much more tolerant now! I think it was just a way of coping during the stresses of school.

I know I don’t do enough to help our environment. I’m trying to work on that.

I have always been a huge baseball fan and I’ve always cheered for the Toronto Blue Jays so seeing the country come together to support them is making me beyond happy! OK! OK! BLUE JAYS! BLUE JAYS! LET’S PLAY BALL!

I’ve become really interested in fashion lately. My closet basically consists of tank tops and hoodies so I’d really like to change that and change up my normal day to day style.

I have a ton of freckles and I was told a lot during school that I had really big cheeks. Hence, the name for my blog.

I didn’t think I would enjoy blogging or reading other people’s blogs as much as I do. I wish I had started years ago.

History was my favourite subject in high school. Math and science were my least favourite.

I can’t wait to start travelling with Nate. Kurt and I have so many places we’re looking forward to visiting as a family.

And lastly, these last nine and a half months have been the greatest thing to ever happen to me.

I hope that gives you a bit more insight into who I am besides a new mom, a wife, and a nurse!
