Life Lately

Oops! I Did It Again…

Holy smokes Batman! How has it been so long since I last blogged?! I swear, it was only 2-3 days ago that I wrote my last post, not like 16! Jeeze! I promise though, nothing new and exciting has happened in this time frame. It’s mostly just been life as per usual. Christmas decorations have long since been put away, the house is a disaster, it snowed a fair amount, and the Natey-Nate has decided he no longer likes to have longs naps. That is what I’ve been dealing with lately. Basically just my typical every day life. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, it’s just not really “blog worthy”. I don’t think anyone really wants to read about how I finally vacuumed the house for the first time in probably close to two weeks or that I was 100% caught up with laundry for exactly 13 hours! Haha.

But seriously, life has been pretty busy lately. Between working two jobs and Nate, there’s very limited time off to just sit and write. We’ve been looking around at houses the past few weeks as well. Not that we’re in dire straights to move or anything but we have noticed that we’re slowly growing out of our 1700 sq foot house. It’s a really decent size home and there’s lots we love about it (all three bedrooms are huge, three baths is amazing, massive kitchen) but we’ve slowly started realizing that the living space is becoming less and less of ours and more of Nate’s. Now, we’re under no delusion that this won’t continue to happen in a new house but we’re hoping to find somewhere with a better lay out. As it stands right now, we don’t ever use our finished basement. It was finished when we bought the house and seemed like a great bonus space but now looking at it, it’s just not finished in a way that makes it somewhere for Nate to play. The floors are tile, so it’s always cold down there, there’s only two tiny windows and one it under the back deck so there’s NO natural light, the layout just doesn’t work, etc. When we moved into this house we weren’t even considering kids at the time and there seemed to be a ton of space for us but with three humans and three cats, we’re becoming cramped here. Kurt and I are hoping to find somewhere with a better main floor layout and perhaps and extra bedroom that can be turned into a playroom since I’ve decided basements are just not “my thing” when it comes to playrooms. It’s a shame because I really do love our house but I do not want to go through completely renovating an already finished basement and even if we did do that, it still wouldn’t solve some of our other problems with our house. But like I said, we don’t NEED to move this instant so we’re just taking our time and looking around. Just seeing what’s out there in our price range.

And like I mentioned above, Nate has decided he no longer needs a nap. This has been horrendous this week! I used to call myself the “Naptime Ninja” (yeah, I’m a dork!) because any time I was at home with Nate on my days off I would get at least a 1.5-2 sometimes 2.5 our long nap out of the kid. It was heaven! I had more than enough time to eat, shower, clean the house, do laundry, and relax before he woke up. It was honestly amazing. Kurt would always complain to me about how when he’s home with Nate on weekend, he’ll only nap for maybe 30 minutes or so but somehow I was always the lucky one. Now it seems, the tables have turned. Nate will not nap for me at all. This past week, I’ve been lucky if he’s lasted more than 35-40 minutes! He gets into his crib and cries (like usual) then eventually falls asleep (like usual) but unlike before where he would sleep through basically any sound, nowadays it seems like the drop of a pin could wake the kid. I can’t even have the tv volume on 1 or 2 because it’s still loud enough to wake him up. It’s crazy. I have no clue where this sudden refusal of naps has come from but let me tell you, the boy cannot go without one! By 5 o’clock he is freakin’ miserable! But at this point there’s not much we can do. If he goes down for a late nap, he won’t sleep at his usual 8pm bedtime. It’s like a lose-lose situation. I know he’s approaching the age where another sleep regression can happen but with how well he’s been doing lately, I was falsely under the illusion that perhaps we wouldn’t hit it. Alas, there’s not much we can do about it unfortunately. Just grin and bare it. I’m no longer the “Naptime Ninja”.

Hope everyone’s January is going good! And if you made some New Year’s resolutions, I hope you’re still sticking to them! I didn’t because mine literally last three days then I fall off the wagon. Haha!
