Freckles and Cheeks Partners

Durham Region Makers is a community made up of strong women and men coming together to support and empower one another. Through this community we build connections and form bonds that can blossom into both long-lasting friendships and business relationships. When The Maker’s Hub opened its doors back in October 2017, there was a collective sigh of relief throughout the community. The stress of porch pickups, scheduling drops offs, no shows, and the occasional forgetful customer was no longer an issue. Makers now had a community space to call their very own. The Maker’s Hub provides a safe and secure place for local pickups, marketing opportunities, a space to rent for creative workshops, skill building classes and more!
Over this past holiday season, I rented a showcase cube at The Maker’s Hub; this was when I first met Cheryl, the owner. Having just started Freckles and Cheeks Chewlry, a teething accessory business, I was seeking out ways to promote and expand. Which led me to discover this wonderful new ‘shop front’ located in Oshawa. Cheryl was warm and welcoming. From the moment we met, I knew she was someone I wanted to get to know better. Our next brief meeting was when I attended the very first fundraiser hosted at The Hub, ‘DIY and Desserts’, in November 2017. Although we didn’t get to chat much during the busy event, seeing how proud she was of her space made me like her all the more. Throughout the past few months our paths have crossed several times. This led me to feature her and The Maker’s Hub on my ‘Small Business Saturday’ blog series in February 2018.
Recently, Cheryl reached out to me in regards to her newsletter and blog. She offered me the position of Featured Writer for The Maker’s Hub. Having close ties to the Durham Makers Community and a love of supporting small businesses, I was thrilled that she thought of me! Writing is something that I enjoy doing and having the opportunity to engage with the community on a more personal level is something I am so excited about!!
This collaboration between myself, Cheryl, and The Maker’s Hub will include monthly newsletters to Durham Region. These newsletters will be geared towards not only the ‘maker’ but the ‘shopper’ as well; featuring events, bios on your favourite businesses, and so much more! Blog posts will include written pieces by myself and other sourced Durham area bloggers connected to the Maker community. As well as featured shops and other interesting and informative pieces!
We are beyond thrilled for this new partnership and business venture and hope you all join us on this wild ride!
