With the on-going Covid-19 pandemic, we knew a few weeks ago that Canada Day would look a little different for us this year. Normally, we would celebrate with friends by having a bbq and fireworks but this year it was just the five of us at home and you know what? It was still pretty great! Our town decided to forgo even online fireworks this year and stated no at-home fireworks would be permitted either which was the only downer. I’ve always loved fireworks – I know, I know they scare the animals. Don’t @ me. I still like them o.k.?! – but besides that small issue, it really was nice to just be at home with the family.
We hung out in the backyard; jumping on the trampoline, playing in the sandbox, and just relaxing. Eli and Sage got a few naps in throughout the day. Kurt and Nathan played ball hockey for a bit and we decorated the walk way with sidewalk chalk. We went for a walk around the neighbourhood and then came home to bbq hot dogs and hamburgers. After dinner we took the boys for an ice cream each then took a little drive down some country roads until it was almost bedtime. We didn’t really do too much but it was definitely great to have Kurt home for a day during the week and the kids are still so young, that they really don’t care what we do as long as we’re all together.
If this pandemic has taught me anything, it’s definitely that if we’re all together then in the end, that’s all we really need. As hard as it has been, it’s also been so nice to embrace this slower pace of life with the five of us.
