For the most part Nate has slept great since his birth. I would actually have to wake him up every 2-3 hours to feed in the first few weeks because he just wanted to sleep and sleep and sleep. It was really heaven! Even with how colicky and cranky he was during the day and evenings; at night when he finally fell asleep he would go from about 9pm until anywhere between 3-6am. It was great! Especially because I had to listen to a screaming baby who just wanted to be walked around and held all day long. So actually getting to sleep at night probably saved my sanity.
But alas, all good things must come to an end apparently because for the past 2.5-3 weeks he has been the worst sleeper ever! He has been waking every 1.5-2 hours wanting to feed or be cuddled. No matter what we’ve tried it hasn’t worked. He’s also decided that he wants to be a tummy sleeper. Which is scary enough as it is but he wants to literally smush his entire face into his playpen mattress and sleep like that. If I try to move his head to the side he wakes up and starts screaming and crying. It can take anywhere from 10-45 minutes for him to fall back to sleep once he’s woken up. He also never used to cry if he did wake in the middle of the night to feed. I would just hear him moving around in his playpen whereas now he screams bloody murder until he’s picked up. It’s been trying to say the least.
I know he’s going through a huge growth spurt and unfortunately for us his bad sleeping patterns also coincided with day light savings time. I remember my step mom telling me that the time changes would mess up my step siblings for at least a month afterwards. So that’s what I’m blaming. Growth spurts and day light savings time.
He’ll be five months tomorrow so I’m hopeful that in the next few days (maybe weeks ) his sleeping habits will go back to normal. I’d love just to get a solid four hours straight these days! But since he’s so cute I suppose we can hold out a little longer!
Stay strong momma! You’re a rockstar
