Gosh! I really cannot believe that Christmas is only 12 days away! When/how did that happen?! I don’t even remember the entire month of November. We were so swamped with moving and unpacking that it’s just been a complete blur. This year, I’ve been really trying to start some holiday traditions and get Nate into the Christmas spirit. Here’s a little peak at our ‘Christmas To-Do List’!
1.) Decorate the house- completed mid to end of November
2.) Finish Christmas shopping- I wish I could say that I was finished my shopping just like Kurt finished his but unfortunately I’m still struggling to get it all completed. I am dreading going to the malls this time of year too. I tell myself every year that by the start of December I’ll be finish but as always, I’m no where close to being done.
3.) See the lights on Old Scugog Road- still need to do. Kurt and Nate went without me a couple weeks ago so of course now we have to go back so I can see them. For those of you who don’t know what this is, Old Scugog Road is this road of BEAUTIFUL, MASSIVE homes and every year (for as long as I can remember) all the houses go totally all out with Christmas lights. They collect food donations for local charities and every house is completely different in looks and decorations. I’ve gone basically every year of my life and every year it becomes more and more popular.
4.) Enniskillen Tractor Parade- Nate and I went last year because Kurt was working but this year the three of us went and it was great. It’s been going on for about 16 years now and it’s basically exactly how it sounds. Local farmers deck their tractors out in Christmas lights and decorations then drive through town. It’s just a really cute small town thing and it’s always a kick watching Santa drive down the road on a John Deere tractor.
5.) Go see Santa- done and it was a huge fail. In retro spec, we should not have taken Nate to see Santa the night we went. He didn’t nap that day and of course, fell asleep en route to see Santa. So once we got there, he was miserable and tired and cranky and unfortunately, he bawled he ENTIRE time. Last year, we were able to get a picture in between sobs that looked somewhat cute but this year nope! He was not having any of it. He sobbed and screamed once we got to the front of the line. I sat with him and Santa but it didn’t help. He continuously screamed and tried to get away from Santa. Poor Santa. Better luck next year!
6.) Watch Christmas movies- We’ve watched a few so far and I can’t wait to show Nate some more. So far we’ve watched Elf, Arthur Christmas, The Polar Express (which Nate loved), and a Thomas the Train Christmas movie. Of course, we still have to watch all the classics so I’m hoping to get those started this week.
7.) Sip on some Christmas beverages- I’m definitely a typical ‘white girl’ when it comes to classic Fall and Winter drinks. I love the PSL (although, I did NOT have one this year 😦 ) but so far this season I’ve had the Caramel Brulee latte as well as the Chestnut Praline one from Starbucks. Both are so good and of course my go to Cinnamon Dolce latte is a perfect match for Christmas as well.
8.) Make some holiday crafts- We have not done/created one thing this holiday season so next week when I’m off for a few days, it’s gonna be crafting central in our household!
9.) Watch the Toronto Santa Claus parade- unfortunately this year we didn’t make it out to any parades just because of my work schedule but Kurt pvr’d the Toronto parade for me so Nate and I have watched it at least five times now. He goes crazy for the Paw Patrol float every time it comes on the tv! It’s so adorable!
10.) Spend time with loved ones and eat delicious food- my favourite thing about the Holiday season is getting to spend some quality time with our family and friends. There’s always great food, loads of laughs, and a good time to be had by everyone.
I cannot wait to see Nate’s face on Christmas Day! He’s going to be such a spoiled little boy! I’m very grateful that this year I’ll be coming off of nights Christmas morning. By the time I get home, Nate will be awake and we’ll get to do presents right away. Hopefully, I’ll get a few hours of sleep before heading out for all the festivities!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you!!
